Chlorination Works

Where water is stored, or its flow through pipes is at very low rates or infrequent, it may become contaminated or reduced in quality. Sludge and sediment that harbour legionella and other bacteria can build up in tanks and pipework and they need to be cleaned so that biofilms are removed. Chlorination is a process that can be used to clean and disinfect a building’s internal water supply system to prevent or control the risk of legionella bacteria exposure. ICE provides chlorination works to clean and disinfect such water systems.
At ICE Services we provide chlorination-based cleaning and disinfection works to help our customers ensure that their tanks and pipes are clean and free from bacteria. We provide a disinfection works certificate to prove it once we have completed the necessary testing.

How chlorination works:-

  • Chlorine breaks down the chemical bonds in the enzymes of legionella bacteria, damaging their cell walls and disrupting their metabolism. This causes the enzymes to fall apart or change shape, which kills the bacteria.
